Julie Reyburn is a Massachusetts native who grew up on Cape Cod. Her early musical influences came from her parents, a folk rock duo called Brandywyne. When she was a good girl or if the babysitter couldn’t get her to sleep, Julie was invited up on stage to sing with her parents in small clubs like the Black Swan in Hyannisport. Life coming full circle, Julie moved to New York City to pursue a career in Musical Theatre and found herself singing in small clubs again with her original music. In 2000, after discovering the unique art form of cabaret as a Fellow at the 1998 Eugene O’Neill Cabaret Symposium, Julie burst on to the cabaret scene. Her debut show and CD titled, Fate is Kind received critical acclaim and won Julie the Backstage Bistro and MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Awards for Outstanding Female Debut.
Since that debut year, Julie has continued performing her one woman shows in Manhattan at The Firebird, The Duplex, Helen’s, The Triad, Encore, and Judy’s to name a few. Her shows garnered the first ever Nightlife Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist in 2003 and the MAC Award for Female Vocalist. The Siegels Column on Theatremania.com voted Julie Top Female Vocalist two years in a row. In 2005, Julie was named among The Best of Boston – Top 10 Cabaret Shows by Edge Magazine and collected a nomination for a Nightlife Award. Her long time collaborator, arranger and musical director Mark Janas is well known for his work at the Irish Rep Theatre as well as providing musical direction for many cabaret and theatre stars. Mark and Julie’s partnership has created over 10 original shows and concerts and a CD with a new live CD on the way.
Cabaret has brought Julie to New York’s famed Town Hall where she performed in the Broadway Musicals of 1940 (Broadway by the Year Series) and can be heard on the cast recording. From Chicago to Philadelphia to The Hamptons to Town Hall and the new Rose Theatre at the Time Warner Center, The Mabel Mercer Foundation has invited Julie as a special guest performer in their annual and touring Cabaret Conventions.
Musical Theatre being a passion as well, Julie has performed in touring, regional and New York productions of classic musicals to new works being introduced for the first time on stage. Some favorite roles include, Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, Trina in Falsettos, and Mary in Jesus Christ Superstar. In New York, she has originated roles in new musicals; Kate in Heaven Knows and Ivy in War Brides both as a part of the Developmental Reading Series at The York Theatre. Julie can be heard on the original cast recordings. One of her favorite theatrical experiences is performing with the Atrainplays at the Neighborhood Playhouse.
Currently, Julie is at work collaborating on a new musical children’s book series as well as a live cabaret CD and a host of out of town shows. From the American Songbook to Musical Theatre to Rock and Roll classics, Julie creates from a diverse palate enjoying every step of the journey.
